The Bogor Botanical Gardens

0 komentar
The Bogor Botanical gardens is the oldest and most well-known of the four of The Indonesian Botanical Gardens. The Gardens located in the middle of Bogor town, truly the heart of this city and adjoins the Istana Bogor (Presidential Palace).  It covers more than 80 hectares and contents an impressive collection of various plants and incredible trees from all over Indonesia. Many trees have grown into incredible height, some with a root system reaching high over ground creating a true feeling of walking around in the rain forest.

Scissor Pond at Bogor Botanical Garden

The gardens founded 1817 were very old yet very well maintained and beautiful. The many ancient trees, canopies of vines and flowers and sheer abundance of exotic tropical plants gave you a sense of sanctuary. With all the water features and landscaping adding to the scenic stroll throughout the grounds, it was hard not to want to take a picture of everything you saw. The bamboo garden was wonderful, here and there you would find benches to sit down and contemplate the beauty of the garden.

Presidential Palace at Bogor Botanical Gardens

It is a pleasure to be able to walk among such mature trees which are marked with the Latin name. Try checking out the park sites and facilities: JJ Smith and Lady Raffles Memorial, Scissor Pond, Bat habitat tree, Teisjmann Park, Dutch Cemetery,  Canary avenue, Hanging Bridge, Surya Lembayung Bridge, Orchid House Exhibition, Sudjana Kassan Park, Treub laboratory, Herbarium & Seed Musesum and Tissue Cultural laboratory.

Dutch Cemetery at Bogor Botanical Gardens

Today the gardens contain more than 15,000 species of trees and plants. There are 400 types of exceptional palms along lawns and avenues. The Gardens are a refuge for more than 50 different varieties of birds and for groups of bats roosting high in the trees. The orchid houses contain some 3,000 varieties.  Over the 180 years, it contributed to many major science, agriculture, conservation and environmental education.

the rare flower of Rafflesia Patma

At the beginning of year 2014, the rare flower of Rafflesia Patma is blooming at Bogor Botanical Garden. It was the 7th flowers since 2010.  It is one of the three national flowers in Indonesia, the other two being the white jasmine and moon orchid. It was officially recognized as a national "rare flower" (Indonesian: puspa langka)

Tips:
  • Check the herb garden, palms, bamboo collection, Mexican garden, water garden and ginger collection. In fact, almost every square inch is interesting.  Try the open garden car for a sightseeing everywhere inside this park.
  • You can rent a bicycle inside and tour the park as you wish
  • There is Zoology museum inside the park. It is included at your entry ticket. This museum is very old and tired. Check its collection of the giant blue whale bones. It is very amazing big.
  • The other interesting place is the Dutch cemetery. You can see the antique massive tomb that built from the late 1800. So old!
  • Don't forget to bring an umbrella as the weather is quite unpredictable. Bogor is one of the wettest cities with highest rainfall in Java. The rainy city is other name of this town.
  • Thanks to roads throughout the Garden that allow cars to drive through. But in case you are visiting for the first time, please keep in mind: this place is really big. Be sure to bring plenty of water if you don't plan on bringing your car into the gardens.
  • Visit the famous hanging red bridge, the back view of the Bogor Presidential Palace and see the beauty of the tall & strong trees planted from 1800s
  • If you plan to go to the gardens from Jakarta, start your trip early, at about 9am at the latest. This is to ensure you miss the horrendous traffic jams.
  • There is a great cafe located on a hill with a lovely panoramic view overlooking part of the gardens.
  • Don't forget your sunscreen and  mosquito repellant.
  • Go early, bring your picnic basket and prepare to spend at least half a day in the park - it was well worth the long trip from the city.
  • The gardens are an absolute paradise but the lack of proper maintenance leaves the manmade things a bit "tired".

Zoology museum

The others Indonesian Botanical Gardens worth to see are:

Tangkuban perahu Crater Park

0 komentar
The Tangkuban Perahu crater park is a popular tourist attraction where tourists can hike or ride to the edge of the crater to view the hot geysers and boiling mud up close. The park located at the highland just at the outskirt of Bandung and is surely a perfect place to enjoy cool air and relaxing scenery. The huge crater is an astonishing view and you can walk around and explore this for around two hours. Here you will be greeted by sulfur fumes which the crater continues to emit although the volcano is not active.

pic credit to http://www.indonesia-tourism.com Tangkuban Perahu
Tangkuban Perahu is a dormant volcano 30 km north of the city of Bandung, the provincial capital of West Java, Indonesia. It last erupted in 1959. However, on February 2013, The Tangkuban Parahu park was closed due to a rise in volcanic activity. Vendors and visitors should not go up to the crater at that moment. During the second half of August, there had been increased seismic activity and elevated gas emissions. On September, seismic gradually decreased and no more tremors appeared since then.

Tangkuban Perahu is a volcano with three craters into which areas tourists can walk through. These three craters are:
  • Kawah Ratu - the huge ‘Queen Crater’ located at the top with the spectacular panoramic view of this large and deep crater. It’s the only one crater that can be reached easily by car to its rim. It is today just a big gray hole, which sometimes has a pool of water at its center. Poisonous gases sometimes accumulate in Kawah Ratu, thus making it somewhat of a risk to descend to the crater floor. You may also imagine that you hear a man sighing as if carrying a heavy burden. This wheezing sound actually comes from the sulfur steam that comes out deep from the bowels of the earth.
  • Kawah Upas  - walk around the rim of the main Kawah Ratu crater and in around 20 minutes you will come to the this second crater. The trail is steep and slippery in some parts; however, your special efforts wil be well rewarded when you notice the shade trees and breathtaking views on either side of the muddy land. This is the best time to freeze the moment through your camera
  • Kawah Domas – the most unique ceater with the extreme heat. There are many hot geysers in which you can boil eggs there. Going down to the crater was ok but going up again it will be a bit of a struggle ;)

overturned boat
Mount Tangkuban Perahu has a distinctive shape, and looks like an “overturned boat”. The name of “Tangkuban Perahu” translates roughly to "upturning of a boat" in Sundanese, referring to the local legend of its creation.

The legend of Sangkuriang is an old story passed on through generations in West Java, with varying regional accounts and detailed interpretations, though the main premise remains the same. Sangkuriang is a man descended from the gods who accidentally falls in love with his own mother, Dayang Sumbi.

Sangkuriang was separated from his mother since childhood. Yet, through God’s will he came to meet her again. On the way home, he stopped by a small village where he met and fell in love with a beautiful girl, without realizing that the girl he loved was in fact his own mother, Dayang Sumbi, who had remained youthful through the years. . The two fall in love immediately, and the heavily smitten Sangkuriang asks for her hand in marriage.

One day she finds a scar on his forehead and discovered the terrible truth of her lover was her own son, she was horrified. In order to dodge the marriage proposal, Dayang Sumbi suggests some prerequisites for marriage that she thinks will be impossible to meet.  She, therefore, challenged him to build a dam and a huge boat during one single night before she would agree to marry him.

Seeing that her son was about to complete this impossible wish, she called on God to bring up the sun early. With a wave of her magic shawl, Dayang Sumbi lit up the eastern horizon with flashes of light. Deceived by what looked like dawn, the cocks crowed and farmers rose for a new day. When Sangkuriang realized that his endeavor was lost, in his rage he kicked the boat that he had built turning it upside down, which was transformed into Mount Tangkuban Perahu, the name that in the local Sundanese language translates roughly to "overturned boat".

Tips:
  • It is quite long drive from Bandung town and sometimes heavily jammed at weekend. Approaching the destination, the road is quite bumpy and steep. Best to travel at early morning to reach place before noon.
  • Beware of the villagers trying to sell something and anything from souvenirs to snacks and drinks but if you don't need to then just ignore them.
  • Take the chance to chill at the side of the hill with the view of Tea plantations while eating Jagung Bakar (corn BBQ) and Satay when you going back to town or on the way to Ciater. It was beautiful back ground for taking pictures too.
  • There are also tea plantations right next to the entrance where you can take pictures at.
  • As with all mountain tops, the air can be chilling, so prepare your jackets.
  • Just ignore the touts; hang-on to your kids and bags.
  • go strawberry-picking on the way back to Bandung

Batik (/ˈbætɪk/ or /bəˈtiːk/; Javanese pronunciation: [ˈbateʔ]; Indonesian: [ˈbatɪk]) is a cloth that is traditionally made using a manual wax-resistdyeing technique.  Javanese traditional batik, especially from Jogyakarta and Surakarta, has notable meanings rooted to the Javanese conceptualization of the universe. Traditional colours include indigo, dark brown, and white, which represent the three major Hindu Gods (Brahmā, Vishnu, and Śiva). This is related to the fact that natural dyes are most commonly available in indigo and brown. Certain patterns can only be worn by nobility; traditionally, wider stripes or wavy lines of greater width indicated higher rank. Consequently, during Javanese ceremonies, one could determine the royal lineage of a person by the cloth he or she was wearing.

  • If you want to know the price of something and don't know the language, just offer your calculator and the seller will enter the price.
  • If you go on weekend or publich holiday and it is so crowded, try on weekday if you can or else just enjoy the crowd.
  • It's a great market, a definite must go, but needed your patience to shop
  • It's an experience for sure, just make sure you keep your wallet safe
  • If you're lucky you may be approached by a person with a basket on their head offering to carry your purchases - far from being demeaning, this is how these porters earn their living.  If  you want to hire one, be sure to negotiate the price first.

2 komentar
Sentul is located between Jakarta and Bogor, popular for its international racing circuit and the music concert hall.  However, surrounding the Sentul area, there are housings and shopping area as well.  Sentul is the alternative route that you can take to go to Puncak to avoid the crowded traffic during weekends or holidays.

desa gumati resto

Located approx. 15 minutes from the Sentul toll gate (Jagorawi Highways), there is a café and restaurant called Desa Gumati.  It s located at 16th Cijulang Street, Bogor.   Inspired by its name, Desa Gumati which means Gumati village, the concept of the restaurant is to give the ambience of a village with a touch of Java and Bali ethnic combination.  Desa Gumati provides many facilities such as pony rides, fishing, ATV and lodging too.

Kids will love to drive ATV around the village tracks, pony rides and Delman ride.

The menu is mostly Indonesian Sundanese, their signature dish is the Sambal Goreng Gumati  (fried sambal) and the Teh Poci (hot tea brewed in a clay pot).

Surrounding the restaurants there are fish ponds where kids can feed fishes while waiting for their meals to come.

Play on beach wave pool at Ocean Park - BSD City

0 komentar
Bumi Serpong Damai, known as BSD City,  is a real estate located at west side of Jakarta. It is at a suburb area.  BSD is a city designed around one thing: the people who will live, work and play here. People who will experience an unparalleled Quality of Life as comfortable homes, business spaces, shopping, education and leisure all come together to provide a better, healthier environment in which to live.

ocean park bsd

One of the recreational park is Ocean Park. This water theme park is located at the central of BSD. The place can be easily recognized by the giant octopus on it’s roof.

It’s lobby serves food and drink stalls and ticket booth. there is also restaurant while entering the lobby. The water park is quite large, there are varieties of outbound water based game, a Flying Fox game and trampoline.

entrance to pool
This place is a family recreational park, you can bring your little ones for a fun water play, no kids can resist playing with water. Ocean Park has a shallow kiddie pool for toddlers where they can have fun just walking around the pool or play with the water canon, spray, sliding etc.

There's also a kids pool next to the toddler pool where bigger kids can play there, however no tube allowed in this pool.  In this pool, kids usually gather around the play arena where there's a giant pail that will spill a huge splash of water whenever the pail is already full with water.  The shrieking of the kids getting splashed and their wide grins is a sight to enjoy.

kids pool

For a different experience, move to the farther pools at the back where the area is actually a lot bigger than the kids pools at the front side.  In this area, there's a high water sliding where you can slide side by side with three other persons, however you must be at a certain minimum height to be able to play in this slide.

sliding

There's a also two great sliding tube where you can slide together with friends, however, a precaution, as these sliding comes out to a deeper pool, make sure there's someone down in the pool to catch your kids when they emerge from the slide.

The biggest and perhaps most sought after pool in Ocean Park is actually the wave pool.  The design of this pool is made to a liking of a white sandy beach, and the wave will be set at one hour interval.  Usually the park will sound a siren to alert all visitors that wave pool is about to start so people will rush to the pool to enjoy the wave with their tube.  The wave is actually quite strong, so if you're taking your toddlers, it's best to stay at the shallow side of the pool.

beach pool

After the wave subsided, get into the river pool where you can still ride the wave lazily on top of your tube.  If you're tired of playing, rest a while and order some drink or snacks, many of of the food stall attendants there will go around and offered to take your orders and deliver it to you, so you don't have to go around to search for food or drink. You can also play the trampoline and flying fox inside the park for free.

For safekeeping, lockers are available for rent.  However, it is advisable to leave your valuables at home and bring only the necessary things to the park.

Tips:
  • Check for the promotional tickets, usually the park will offer a good promotion of buy 1 get 1 ticket for certain credit card holders
  • This park can be overcrowded at weekend or holiday, usually it will start to get crowded after 10am
  • No outside food or drink allowed except for baby, the security will check your bag
  • Although safe guards are available, never leave your kids unattended
  • Since it is at tropical area, come early and hinder the direct sun at noon.
  • just don’t forget to bring some sun block if you don’t plan to get some natural tanning ‘treatment’ here
